Home Safety Evaluations

Stairs are formidable to the elderlyThe home environment is the leading area of injury due to falls other risks of injury sustained by elderly and disabled persons.

Occupational therapists are certified and licensed rehabilitation professionals that undergo extensive training in the treatment of patients experiencing difficulty with self care tasks and functional mobility. These self care tasks can range from basic (bathing, dressing, grooming and hygiene) to complex (grocery shopping, meal preparation, medication monitoring, etc.) Functional mobility includes transfers to and from home and community surfaces.

Assessing the home environment for safety and independence issues is a main component of an Occupational Therapist’s job. OT’s are skilled at taking into account the medical condition of clients and selecting compensatory strategies or adaptive devices to ensure the safest and most independent method of completing self care tasks.

The Home Safety Evaluation is FREE when opening a contract with ESG or a set fee per visit without.

How the process works

  1. A visit is scheduled at the client’s convenience for a full and complete walk through evaluation of the current living situation.
  2. A customized report is created identifying each specific area of concern with a listing of recommended compensatory strategies or adaptive equipment to address the area of concern
  3. Follow up phone call and information as needed.
